What's your story?
My relationship with yoga was not love at first sight. Growing up I was active. I danced for years into my childhood. I was exposed to fitness at a young age with my father always weight training at the gym. In my early teen years I picked up a set of his dumbbells and started to work out in my bedroom. I loved working up a sweat, so I wasn’t thrilled when my high school phys ed teacher sent the boys into the weight room and forced the girls to do yoga instead. I wanted to lift weights, not “stretch.” I left with a bitter taste in my mouth and a misunderstanding of what yoga was all about. It was not until years later that I rediscovered the practice.

The second time around my experience with yoga was completely different. I was living in Boston and going through a rough time which left me in a confusing place. I was lacking passion and having difficulties relating with others. During this time my best friend had stumbled upon yoga and asked me to try a class with her. At first I laughed about it, but I agreed to go. I hadn’t worked out or stretched in quite some time so the Vinyasa class we took was very challenging for me. I couldn’t touch my toes, my heels were nowhere near the floor in downward dog, and I had to leave room several times just to catch my breath, but I never felt so alive! I remember feeling strong and confident in Garudasana (eagle pose), but it was Savasana that really sealed the deal for me. In those few moments laying on my borrowed, smelly, sweaty mat, I realized yoga would change my life.

Soon after that I moved back to Long Island and developed a daily practice. I just couldn’t get enough. Yoga brought back the spark that my life was missing. It gave me new goals and the discipline to achieve them. It also gave me a means to connect with others. It was through yoga that I was able to let go of everything that held me back and begin to move on (Aparigraha). The benefits of yoga were so vast that I wanted to explore it even deeper, which led me to my 200-hour Teacher Training in 2014 at Breathe N Flow Yoga, under the guidance of Leah Hartofelis.

What are your greatest passions in life?
Art is my true passion. Whether it’s drawing, painting, making jewelry, or moving my body- everything I do is my art. I love expressing myself in different ways and I hope to inspire others to do the same.

How do you plan on changing the world?
I truly believe that one person can make a difference. I know that through yoga we can change the world. My goal is to use the teachings of yoga to bring about a sense of confidence in my students. If we can all come to love and respect ourselves we can then love and respect others in the realization that we are all one.
