Revolution Yoga offers many styles of yoga, but our predominant style is called Vinyasa. Vinyasa is the bringing together of breath and movement. Each breath is used to strengthen, enlighten, and sustain the flow of your postures. Revolution Yoga's type of Vinyasa follows the principles of Ayurveda, the sister science of yoga. Our highly trained teachers choose sequences from a pool of hundreds of postures bringing your body and mind into balance according to the seasons, weather, and your own personal constitution.
We also offer Hatha, Restorative, Kids Yoga, Pre-natal/Women's Health/ Fertility Yoga, Mommy and Me Yoga, and Meditation Classes (Yoga Vibes). In addition amongst the Vinyasa style we have different levels of intensity so you will be sure to find one that suits your needs.
The physical benefits of yoga are many. It increases strength, vitality, flexibility and agility. It also eases digestion, while improving the nervous system and blood circulation. A more subtle benefit to yoga is the development of self-awareness. Through practice, yoga offers a more creative ability to understand ourselves. This awareness gives us the ability to handle stress and have clearer, calmer thoughts. Yoga improves our attitude and emotional well-being. The ultimate goal is to raise our consciousness, as well as our spirits!
Yoga is meant to enrich the quality of your life. Revolution Yoga is a community of supportive students who are like-minded, and want to bring a feeling of health and wellness into their lives. If you are someone who attends a gym, you will find that yoga is a great balance to your workouts. We have even found that many people who have practiced yoga at gyms, enjoy our environment, and return for the sense of calm they feel, besides the great mind/body workout.
Sometimes practicing yoga in a group setting can be intimidating to the beginner and that is why Revolution Yoga offers private and semi-private sessions. Call the front desk to book your appointment 516- 61- YOGA -1 or email us at revolutionyoga@gmail.com
We offer a diverse schedule of classes that are sure to fit your schedule and level. Our Yoga Newbies or Foundations classes are the best choices for new students of yoga. Gentle flow classes are good for beginners too as the intensity is less. And our most relaxing class Restorative yoga is a wonderful introduction as well.
As a beginner, we recommend Yoga Newbies or Foundations classes first and then moving on to an Open Level class. Our Foundations and Alignment classes are for beginning students to learn the correct alignment of the basic yoga poses. All of our classes work on strength, flexibility, well-being, and inner focus. Since a lot of yoga may seem different then what you're used to give yourself at least 5 classes to adjust. We make that easy with our new student monthly package of only $40 dollars so you are able to try all of our teachers and get accustomed to your yoga practice. Revolution Yoga is a judgement free zone so your teachers will support you in every way and you'll have to support yourself as well so taking it all in stride!
Yes! You are the perfect candidate for yoga. Many people think that they need to be flexible before they begin yoga. Come as you are and you will find that a yoga practice will help you become healthier, balanced, more flexible and more comfortable in your body.
Start with two times per week. Initially, do what you can and refuse to let time constraints become an obstacle. You’ll find that after a while, your desire to practice will increase naturally and you’ll end up doing more and more. Some people practice once a day, if so we recommend taking at least one day off a week and focusing on meditation or more restorative practices.
We do not ask for pre-registration for classes. Arriving early, however, will guarantee you a mat space and give you some time to get to know your teacher and fellow students. As for our workshops, we encourage pre-registration with discount incentives. See our upcoming workshops here. https://www.revolutionyogaspace.com/events.shtml
Please arrive at least 10 minutes before the start time of your class or workshop, especially if it’s your first time at Revolution Yoga.
Not all our classes have chanting, but many do. The chants are mantras. Mantras are vibrations that click in with the energy our brains and neural systems emit and bring us to a healthier level. Chanting is creating a connection to a deeper layer of yourself. It is a positive, verbal, and encouraging method to help break through and clear up the chatter in your mind. The chants are spoken in Sanskrit. Chanting is optional, although we find that many hesitant beginners soon give up the giggles and give in to the uplifting moment! The process of chanting is meant to bring people together in a fun and inclusive practice!
Wear comfortable clothing that allows for stretching. Shorts, sweatpants, and tanktops are fine. However, please be aware of large t-shirts that fall over your face during inversions! No footwear is required since yoga is practiced barefoot. Bring a yoga mat and a hand towel. If you do not have a mat, we can sell or rent you one.
Try not to eat anything heavy right before class. A good rule of thumb is two hours before class. It is recommended that you practice on an empty stomach. A full stomach may cause discomfort and distract you from your practice.
Revolution Yoga is committed to providing access to the many benefits of yoga to individuals with all levels of ability. We have teachers who work with spectrum disorders and autism. We have teachers who work with degenerative disease and cancer patients, we also have teachers who are specialized in injuries and crafting a personalized practice to help your body heal after trauma. Walking in you will have the opportunity to browse through our green boutique. Being greeted by a friendly karma yogi or teacher at the front desk they will ask you to fill out a new student form. Take off your shoes and leave them by the comfy couches near the entrance of the practice room where students hang out after class sipping tea and discussing their experiences. Moving into the studio lay your mat down and get ready to uncover your inner peace, maybe sweat a bit, possibly laugh out loud, listen to great music as your teacher guides you through a body balancing, strengthening and legnthening sequence that will leave you feeling, to say the least, yummy with that grand yoga buzz. : )
We take off our shoes before going into the yoga room. This is an intentional ritual of leaving our stress and worries at the door before entering. It also represents the practice space as a healing place of reverence. Shoes have been all over the place and carry germs as well so leaving them outside makes it more comfortable to do the yoga work on the floor. The props inside the practice space are all complementary and we have mats you can rent for a dollar if you don’t have one of your own.
Be sure to wipe the mat down with the spray provided when class is over before hanging it back up. Also be sure to put away your props neatly after use. The yoga community is a sacred and supportive space so reach out to help others and don’t be surprised when other students introduce themselves or offer help you with props etc.. Try to leave your phone off. Texting during class or checking the internet won’t click with the focus required to practice for you or your fellow yogis. Conversation before or after class is fine but try to keep conversation with fellow students while class is going on to a minimum it can be distracting to the teacher or other students.
We try to practice cleanliness as much as possible so please come in clean, breathable clothing and be sure not to wear strong scents as many practitioners have sensitivities to fragrance that can cause breathing issues. You have the right to do what feels good in your body in the practice space. You know your body best. The teacher will throw out a lot of options but as the student you have the right to choose what suits you and what doesn’t. Rest as often as you need to and only do what feels right to your body.
There’s never pressure to “perform” only gentle encouragement to be present and authentic in your personal experience. If you are sick or have a cold have your practice at home. If you are late to class be quiet coming in. Its customary to sit down immediately in the back and wait until the teacher is done with their philosophy talk and chanting at the start of class. Then the teacher will help you find a space when the class is ready to find asana.
You can leave class whenever you need to to use the bathroom. If you have to leave early however we do encourage you to spend 2-3 minutes at the end of your practice laying on the floor in savasana. This is the corpse pose laying on the back relaxing taking deep breaths will prepare you to step off the mat into your life. Let the instructor know before class about any issues you’re having in your body that you need help with and if you have to leave early.
