What’s your story?

"Yoga found me at a time when I was unable to quiet my mind, a time when depression was weighing me down so heavily. I needed something, I didn’t know what it was, but I needed something to bring me peace, some type of calm and control over my racing thoughts.

8 Years ago I wandered into a gym during my lunch break and saw a lunchtime yoga class in session and I thought “Maybe I will come to the next yoga class at the gym and they can teach me how to breathe and meditate or whatever they do” That class over 8 years ago changed my life, it changed ME! I remember waking up from Savasana in that very first yoga class, and I felt like I was floating on air, anxiety gone, the depression lifted from my body. Something shifted in my body, in my mind, in my spirit! I was hooked!

Over the next few years I held on to my yoga practice like my most prized possession, but I felt like yoga was pushing me into a space I didn’t quite understand at the time. So I continued traveling around the city attending any yoga class my gym membership would allow me access to. In the gym of all places, I found teachers who taught how to breathe, how to be still, how to tap into strength I didn’t know I possessed. I found teachers who taught me how to teach, and how to hold space for others. I would from time to time be asked by my teacher (who would some times being run late) and students, to start the class, in order not keeping students waiting. In this space is where my yoga teaching journey begins.

After 2 years of the being gently pushed by my teachers and fellow students, 2020 hit! The gym shut down ,all of us at home nowhere to go, no yoga class in sight. The anxiety crept back in, the depression soon to follow. I was back where I started. I looked around at my community and saw so many people suffering just like me, and in this moment, it came to me “Teach the people yoga!” show them the peace within. And just like that I became a yoga teacher in 2020."

My biggest passions?

Inclusion, belonging and access. I am super passionate about creating safe spaces for all people to access yoga. Teaching people to access their power, their strength, their peace! Yoga can be sometimes intimidating, and super serious, but I want you know you belong here. As I say in my class “it's just yoga, its not that serious, so lets have a good time”

How do you plan on changing the world?

"Change the world by example, by action! I love the saying “Each one, teach one” I love share what I learned of the yoga system, whether it be the physical body, the energetic body or the spirit. As these teachings have passed down to me, and I hope pass them down to my community, who will pass them to the next and so on and so on..."

How many passport stamps do you have?

Only 1 Jamaica. I'm a homebody. I love being home. Home is sacred, home is peace, but I plan to spread my wings and see the world soon. Any suggestions?
